Race and Heart Disease in America: How We Got Here

Race and Heart Disease in America Series.

A three-part series in partnership with the Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC) Medical Alley Association (MAA) and the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association (PCNA).

Today, ABC in collaboration with the Medical Alley Association and the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association begin a three-part content series titled “Race and Heart Disease in America,” that shines a light on the reality of current health disparities and identify ways we can create more equitable healthcare solutions. The first two installments are podcast episodes, and the series will conclude with a live webinar on Feb. 9, 2022.

For the first of two podcast episodes, Gabriela Spence of the MAA, is joined by Dr. Keith C. Ferdinand, Co-chair of the ABC Access to Care Initiative, and Gerald S. Berenson Endowed Chair in Preventative Cardiology and Professor of Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine, and Dr. Yvonne Commodore-Mensah, a member of the PCNA Board of Directors and Assistant Professor at John’s Hopkins School of Nursing and Public Health and the Center for Health Equity. The three discuss the history of health inequities in this country, beginning with the civil rights movement and moving through important moments that have reinforced inequality and mistrust in healthcare institutions.

Stay tuned for the second podcast, Race and Heart Disease in America: Taking Today’s Pulse.
