U.S. House of Representatives votes to repeal Prevention and Public Health Fund

On April 13, the U.S. House voted to repeal the Prevention and Public Health Fund by a vote of 236 to 183. This measure would absolutely gut the important investments made in community-based health initiatives established under health care reform, initiatives largely targeted toward improvements in the management and ultimate prevention of chronic disease. It is important for all ABC members to contact your two U.S. Senators. Urge your Senators to oppose any efforts to abolish the Prevention and Public Health Fund.

To contact your U.S. Representative:

ABC will post more details on the proposed rule next week. However, several provisions stand out upon initial review:

  • Go to www.senate.gov, In the upper right corner of the website see “Find Your Senators”
  • Contact information for your two Senators will appear
  • Either call the Senate offices and ask to speak with the health legislative assistant, or fill out the e-contact form and let your Senator know that you strongly oppose the House-passed legislation to repeal the Prevention and Public Health Fund. Let them know how important it is for your patients to have access to resources to help better manage chronic conditions. Urge your Senator to oppose any efforts to eliminate the Prevention and Public Health Fund.
