ABC Life Member Dr. Karol Watson Honored

The California chapter of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) has named Karol Watson, MD, PhD as 2017 Elliott Rappaport Cardiologist of the Year.
Dr. Watson, a 20+ year member of the Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC), commented on her award:
“As I reflect on my career, I realize the mentorship, friendship and career guidance I received from many ABC members was instrumental in guiding me. I credit my career-long association with the ABC as one of the keys to my success. Thank you ABC and my many mentors and friends.”
Dr. Watson is an attending cardiologist and a Professor of Medicine/Cardiology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She is Director of the UCLA Women’s Cardiovascular Health Center, the UCLA-Barbra Streisand Women’s Heart Health Program, Co-Director of the UCLA Program in Preventive Cardiology, and Director of the UCLA Fellowship Program in Cardiovascular Diseases. Dr. Watson is a principal investigator for several large National Institutes of Health research studies including the Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study and the Multi-ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis. She is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American Heart Association.
