The Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC) is proud to spotlight the participation of Dr. Sara Collins, interventional cardiologist and Co-Chair of the ABC Public Health and Policy Committee, in “Making of a Heart Attack”—a compelling new mini-documentary released by Amgen and premiered on A&E on June 14th.
Through interviews with clinicians, patients, and advocates, the film explores how uncontrolled LDL-C—or “bad” cholesterol—contributes to early and preventable cardiovascular events, often in people who don’t realize they’re at risk. Dr. Collins’s clear, compassionate perspective guides viewers through the physiology, warning signs, and—most critically—the steps we can take to stop heart attacks before they happen.
Her voice in the film brings not only clinical expertise, but also highlights the importance of diverse leadership and culturally informed care in national conversations around prevention. For ABC, this is core to our mission: advancing cardiovascular health equity and ensuring that lifesaving care reaches every community.
In the documentary, NFL Hall-of-Famer Barry Sanders shares his personal experience with a heart attack on Father’s Day in 2024—and what he’s since learned about high LDL cholesterol and heart health.
Part patient education, part public health call-to-action, “Making of a Heart Attack” delivers a powerful message. ABC applauds Amgen’s efforts and is proud to see one of our own at the center of this critical national conversation.
If you missed the premiere, the film is now available to watch online at AttackHeartDisease.com/Documentary.
