Strengthening public health and prevention efforts is essential to reducing cardiovascular risk and improving outcomes in underserved communities. Public health initiatives focused on tobacco prevention, menthol product regulation, smoking cessation, and chronic disease prevention are critical to reducing cardiovascular risk and improving long-term community health outcomes.

Tobacco and nicotine use remain leading drivers of preventable cardiovascular disease and death, particularly in communities disproportionately impacted by smoking-related illnesses and chronic disease complications. Targeted marketing of menthol-flavored tobacco products, limited access to prevention and cessation resources, and longstanding public health inequities continue to worsen cardiovascular outcomes in underserved and high-risk communities.

ABC's Position:

The Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC) supports evidence-based public health initiatives that reduce tobacco and nicotine use, strengthen prevention efforts, and improve cardiovascular health outcomes in underserved communities.

ABC continues to advocate for policies that address the disproportionate impact of menthol-flavored tobacco products, expand smoking cessation and prevention resources, and support public health initiatives focused on reducing cardiovascular risk factors and chronic disease complications.

These efforts reflect ABC's commitment to advancing prevention-focused public health strategies that improve cardiovascular outcomes and support healthier communities.
