2026 ABC Scholarships for Medical Students

The Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC) is proud to support the next generation of physician leaders dedicated to improving cardiovascular outcomes, advancing health equity, and expanding representation within medicine. This year, ABC will award 15 scholarships to outstanding medical students committed to serving underserved communities.
About the Award
ABC currently offers two scholarship opportunities for medical students, both available through a single application. Applicants may apply for one or both, depending on eligibility.

Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. medical school (applicants must be actively enrolled at the time of application; incoming students not yet enrolled are not eligible)
- For the Dr. Richard Allen Williams Scholarship: demonstrates a clear interest in cardiology through research, leadership, clinical exposure, or career goals aligned with the field
- For the ABC/J&J MedTech Scholarship: Open to medical students currently enrolled in an accredited medical school program.
- Previous recipients may reapply; however, priority is given to first-time applicants. Recipients may not have received the same scholarship within the last two years, and may not have received two ABC scholarships previously

Application Requirements
Applicants must submit the following through the ABC online application portal. Detailed guidelines and submission instructions are provided within the application portal.
All submitted applications are reviewed based on financial need, academic merit, leadership, commitment to underserved communities, and alignment with ABC’s mission.
About These Scholarships
The Dr. Richard Allen Williams Scholarship has supported medical students interested in cardiology since 1984 — making it one of the longest-running awards of its kind in cardiovascular medicine and ABC’s first-ever scholarship. Its first recipient, Alan A. Garvin, now an ABC Life Member, went on to practice cardiovascular medicine in Modesto, California. The ABC/J&J MedTech Scholarship, established in 2022 through a partnership with Johnson & Johnson MedTech, expanded that legacy — adding ten annual awards and bringing ABC’s total medical student scholarship program to fifteen awards and $125,000 per year.
