Boisey O. Barnes, MD, FACC

 

Dr. Boisey O. Barnes is a graduate of Howard University College of Medicine. He is Board-certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. Dr. Barnes was on the faculty of Howard University College of Medicine for eight years before going into private practice. At the Howard Medical School, he served as Director of the Cardiac Clinic and Director of the Non-Invasive Cardiac Laboratory. Dr. Barnes developed and directed the Echocardiographic Laboratory at the Howard University College of Medicine. Over the years, Dr. Barnes has pursued a strong interest in the prevention of cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Barnes is active in numerous organizations. He is a founding member of the Association of Black Cardiologists, a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and has been Secretary and Treasurer of the District of Columbia Chapter of the American Society of Internal Medicine. He was Chairman of the Minority Involvement Committee of the American Heart Association.

Some of Dr. Barnes’ prior academic positions include Assistant Clinical Professor at Howard University College of Medicine and Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at Baylor University College of Medicine.

Dr. Barnes has received numerous awards with two of his most treasured being the Best Teacher Award by the Medical Attending Staff of Providence Hospital and the Favorite Doctor Award by the District of Columbia Medical Society.

Dr. Barnes received the 2014 Member of Year award from the Association of Black Cardiologists. He has been active with ABC since its inception 41 years ago. Some of his activities with ABC include: serving as advocacy chair, participating in congressional briefings, serving as Chairman of the Pioneer Calendar Committee recognizing outstanding individual achievements in Cardiovascular Medicine, local chair of sudden cardiac death initiative to educate and reduce the high incidence in the African American Community, and currently Secretary of the Board of ABC
